Can You Use CBD in Your Bath?

As people hear more anecdotal reports of the benefits of CBD, they want to know more about it. CBD is showing promising benefits for boosting users’ well-being and reducing activity-induced inflammation and soreness.

Current medical treatments may not be producing the desired results, or the side effects could be too severe to continue with regular pharmaceuticals. CBD offers an alternative way to manage symptoms of certain ailments and navigate daily stresses.

As we face the current situation with Covid-19, it’s essential to find comfort and ways to help us de-stress. CBD oil is a superb choice to add to your bathwater.

Help with Relaxation

When you lie in a warm bath, a process called vasodilation occurs. This function happens when the blood vessels in the body open wider, blood flows faster, and blood pressure decreases. The resulting decrease in blood pressure is already known to be beneficial for heart and stress relief. Although CBD oils already penetrate the skin quickly, vasodilation allows more rapid access to your system.

CBD oils can both be rubbed into your skin before your bath, or added to the bathwater. It’s already calming and soothing to climb into a warm bath, and so by adding CBD oil to your water, it may be that these effects are enhanced.

Many users report that CBD oils support relaxation. These claims are not yet medically proven, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a link. Body relaxation helps give a feeling of calm. Calm is also something users report feeling with CBD use. It may be the two are an excellent combination for de-stressing.

Perhaps you already use a bath bomb, or a blend of essential oils to help with relaxation. CBD bath bombs are another option, but CBD oil is an excellent choice as it can cover your whole body both before and during your bath.

Could Reduce Inflammation

CBD is researched for its anti-inflammatory properties, and it could potentially be beneficial for your skin and sore muscles. CBD oil already penetrates the skin quickly, but as the warm bath widens your blood vessels, the CBD oil finds it even easier to enter your system.

Many skin problems come from inflammation and blocked pores. By adding CBD oil to your bath, the soapy water helps unblock the pores, while the CBD may reduce the swelling. Having this type of bath regularly might help prevent the inflammation and blockages from getting to the point where they cause unsightly or painful skin conditions, such as acne or eczema.

Inflammation doesn’t only occur on the skin’s surface, though. Our muscles can also be sore after exercising or vigorous activity. Joints can become painful following injury or due to wear and tear. CBD bath products such as oils may support relief in the muscles and the surrounding joints, providing a natural element for faster recovery.

How to Add CBD to Your Bath

Using high-quality CBD oil, add 25-100 mg to your drawn, hot bathwater. Twenty-five milligrams can help you relax, while higher doses can aid in inflammation and pain relief. Remain in the bath for a minimum of 15 minutes to experience the benefits of the CBD.

Alternatively, you can also use CBD bath salts which are easy to make at home. Simply mix together 3 cups of plain Epsom salts, 100-200 mg of CBD oil, and 10 drops of your favourite essential oil. Mix and allow to dry, and store in an airtight container. Use a heaping cupful in every bath.

How to Make a CBD Bath Bomb

Use your full-spectrum hemp CBD oil to create a bath bomb to enhance your relaxation and wellness during your next bath night. Start with a plastic or metal bath bomb mould, or, if you don’t mind the shape, you can simply form it into a ball and place it into a container with a cover.

Ingredients:

  • 100-200 mg of CBD oil
  • 4 oz baking soda
  • 2 oz citric acid
  • 2 oz Epsom salt
  • 2 oz cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. water
  • 1 tsp. coconut oil
  • 5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil
  • 1-2 drops of food colouring (optional)

Directions:

Whisk all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Whisk until they are fully blended. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds. Mix the wet ingredients into a smaller bowl. Slowly combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients to prevent foaming, whisking gently until the mixture is moist, but not too wet. If it is too dry, add water 1 teaspoon at a time.

Fill the mould on the top and bottom and press the two halves together. Take the top part of the mould off, and leave the bomb to dry for an hour in the bottom part of the mould. Remove the entire mixture from the mould to dry overnight, and your CBD-infused bath bomb is ready to use.

How Does it Work?

CBD is hemp-derived. Hemp is a close cousin of cannabis and a member of the cannabis sativa plant species. It contains trace amounts of the psychoactive THC, so you cannot get high from CBD.

Many researchers believe CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), and in particular, the CB1 and CB2 receptors. There is a high density of these receptors in the skin and part of their job is to promote a healthy balance throughout your body.

As the skin is the largest organ in the body, by adding CBD oil to the bathwater, you are allowing the CBD to reach these receptors quickly. You may find CBD helps you to relax, soothes your skin and muscles, and generally contributes to an enhanced feeling of well-being.
